You wake up in the morning, you check your phone, you go to the bathroom, you shower, eat, walk, drive, work, and hundreds if not thousands of motions that we take for granted daily. But what if you couldn’t? What if you didn’t have legs? What if you didn’t have a job? What if you didn’t wake up at all? Won’t happen to me, right? Right! Yeah well, the very life we live without even thinking about it is what we take for granted every single day. We never stop to really contemplate just how precious our lives are let alone even one single motion.
The older I get the more I come to understand the life of a true monk. The simplicity, the quietness, the peacefulness of just being in the very breathe of a moment as the world speeds around us. Why don’t we take the time to slow down? Why don’t we take the time to honor the personal, intimate life we have been given? Why are we always looking to do, to go or to fill when the gift is already there inside us? Life moves so quickly, so suddenly that most times we don’t even recognize that it has passed us by until it’s already passed and we’re old and gray.
I implore you to stop in your tracks right now, just stop. Listen, look, breathe, take in the very second around you and feel yourself. In this single moment it’s truly not about the bills, the job, the kids, the parents, the house, the car, the anything that seeks out your attention and energy and steals away from your soul the understanding and awareness of just being alive and in that moment. Don’t take for granted the very second you have to be exactly where you are and where you may be going. That knowledge can change your whole life. See you on the journey.
