When I was a younger lad, my dad would take me in for a haircut. This was in the later part of the 70’s and early 80’s. I hated getting my haircut. Dad was old school and liked the hair above the ears but if you know anything about the 70’s long hair was in. I would cry and cry because it was cut to short and I only wanted a little off the top so the rest would grow. It wasn’t until I was in Jr. High that my hair was allowed to be grown out. But what I’m really writing about isn’t really about haircuts at it, it’s about life.
We all have our own thinking when we are able to rationalize and make up our own minds about things. Children are asked, told, manipulated into being as our parents make us to be. There comes a point in most people that we start to decide for ourselves, and this usually creates some type of conflict with whomever is in control. It takes an amazing parent to nurture the being you are to become and to not push their own agenda or beliefs onto you. But unfortunately, we don’t see enough of this and that has a major impact on how life gets lived out.
I see this in our government, our religions, our schools, our family, our friends. The only escape is for the individual to do this on their own. One must become aware of the life around them and be courageous enough to take a step away from the status quo. Just a little off the top can mean either that you’re conforming to the way things are or you really want to be different. It depends on the environment and the time. What I would suggest is shave the whole mop off and start fresh. Now that’s bold.
Why are we so afraid to be bold? Why do we want to fit in so bad? Why do we have to fit in? Get the shot, live like the Jones, have 2.5 kids and the white picket fence that the HMO told you can have only if it’s white. You get my drift? We are controlled and we don’t even realize it. So, I’m asking you next time you need a haircut do something different and maybe just maybe you might see things a little bit different. Don’t get the same old haircut, be different, be free, and live the life you choose. All I ask is that you do this with wisdom and love for yourself and for your fellow human being trying to get by right next to you. It’s not an easy path but I’m telling you it’s an incredible journey if you able to take it. See ya out there peeps.
