Dead Fish

A friend of mine posted a quote, “The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it is conformity. Even a dead fish can go with the flow”. This hit me pretty profoundly because it gave me another way to look at walking dead, i.e., flowing dead. I often talk about people just living through the motions of life. Their eyes are open, they eat, they breath but the light of their soul is dead. So just like a fish “conforming”, a dead fish flows with the flow, walking dead walk with the dead.

Fish don’t have a conscious mind as we do as far as I know. So, a fish doesn’t even notice another dead fish floating along. But in saying that I also believe that many, many people don’t notice the walking dead walking amongst themselves. It’s almost as if conformity is the way of life. We conform through religion, through environment, topography, government, family and friends just to name a few. Why do we do this? Why do we just follow the masses? Why do we believe in what we are spoon fed throughout our lives instead of free thinking? I firmly believe this creates disfunction and disassociation instead of love and compassion.

Now you can say, “Well yeah, but you want us to believe in the way you do. Isn’t that conforming”? I’m not asking you to believe in the way I do. I’m simply stating a thought process that you make a choice to not do what everyone else is doing, or believing just because that’s where you are told to believe. A dead fish can’t make that choice because it’s dead. A walking dead still has the choice to become alive and aware if they have the awakening to do so. Once a person literally dies there is no return. One of the biggest death bed confessions is regret.

Live now, live today. Do those things that may scare you, make you uncomfortable. Dare to live your dreams and passions. You have such a few short years to live on this planet. It makes no sense to continue to walk like a zombie, eyes glazed over doing the same thing over and over just to float down the stream doing nothing. There is so much to explore and down river leads to the ocean. Are you ready for the journey or do you just want to keep on floating till you stink and sink. Open your eyes, open your soul, and if you choose even to swim upstream because you are alive to do so. Don’t be a dead fish. Live an abundant, precious, passionate dream filled life and see where the stream leads.
