I have a gripe. It comes across my brain every now and then and I get so frustrated with the thought. I know we all need money to live, to survive. Money in some form or fashion has been part of life for thousands of years. We traded shells and beads. Then coins became in use in Rome and Spain and Europe just to name a few. But what is sad to me is that how money started to influence people to control the world around them. The people with money had the power. Great things have been done with money but also great tragedy. The mighty Roman Coliseum was built from great wealth but on whose backs was it built and for what purpose. The United States boomed with railroad money and steel money but again at what cost?
The people with money seem to not think that there are those beneath them that are suffering and struggling. The laborers, especially the Chinese, who did work on the railroads to open this great nation up to its people were not recognized nor respected and some were even simply slaughtered. Again, I ask at what cost is money so valuable? The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. We know this is true throughout history. It’s even true in today’s age and this is my gripe. We have quite a few people in this world that have so much wealth that it’s hard to wrap my brain around. Jeff Bezos who is worth an estimated 136 billion and Bill Gates who is worth 106 billion are just two people out of many in the world that have wealth that could change the world. Can you even imagine that kind of money? Of course not! Because it’s so far removed beyond what the vast majority of people can even dream. But yet although they may contribute millions to different causes, this wealth will never be touched. And that makes me mad.
There are millions of people who are struggling, who are dying every day because they don’t have money for housing, for medical, even for food and yet just two people hold 242 billion dollars’ worth of help. It’s just a little money. If just one of those people gave 1 million dollars to every person in America over the age of 18, which is roughly 209 million, that would only equal 209 million dollars of their 100 billion dollars in wealth. It wouldn’t even touch their grandiose bank accounts. Grrrrr, but do you think they even fathom the idea of helping like that? I don’t think so. They are concerned with going to space not helping the space we have on this planet. One million dollars a person would change this world! Now maybe it might change it for the worse I don’t know. But good God it would be something to find out. Why do so few of the people have so much of the money that we have so little of. Just a little bit of their wealth, a tiny fraction of their wallet would change my life and my children’s lives and my friends lives drastically. We need money to exist and just a little bit in the small scheme of their wealth would go far beyond the reaches of space, it would make history. Can you spare just a little bit?
