Fair Or Not Fair

There is much in the news now about fairness and equality from Black Lives Matter to transgender issues. Well, I want to add my two cents for whatever two cents is worth. I really don’t understand the big issue. Don’t get me wrong, I do understand but I don’t get why we don’t come up with better solutions. I’m not black nor transgender so I can’t honestly say what is like to have to deal with those issues. But I am a well-rounded thinker and I have no prejudice bone in my body so allow me to say my own freedom of speech.

The more we create a space because someone has to express themselves that they are different and that they matter, that space of inclusion they want actually creates division. We can have black month; we can have gay parades but if I dared as a white male to have a white month or single myself out then I am racist and closed minded. I know there are white groups that are considered almost extremists and unless your involved with those groups, they are frowned upon. So why is that that we have to have a group that has to stand out as separate but wants to be included. It’s very confusing. Just as using the pronouns currently that many are adamantly using, them they, because they don’t want to identify with a gender. It’s their free will choice to do this as it’s a free will choice not to agree with it all.

So, I’m in a quandary. I accept all around me, I truly do, but I don’t understand why it’s such a push to accept or else if you don’t then you’re not a good person. If I have to accept you, do I also have to accept groups that I don’t agree with. Isn’t that what choice is? To demand freedom of speech, religion, the right to gather and so on then it has to go both ways and therein lies what I’m trying to explain. When a group or person pushes so hard to be heard, accepted and included I believe it actually separates them even more. To me you’re not black or transgender – to call you such is to say that you’re different when in reality all we are is human. We all have struggles. We should be trying to get through hand in hand no matter the color or gender. But that’s the problem. People want to be acknowledged in the difference and in their struggle and I believe that in turn causes a great deal of separation when all you want is inclusiveness. But it’s even deeper than that in my humble opinion. We as a species haven’t done a good job of working well together throughout history. If you’re different than someone has always tried to have power over you. Germany and Jews, Egyptians and slaves, black, yellow or green, handicapped, women, money and poor people, on and on and on.

We are not a people of harmony. We are not a people of love and acceptance and the more we push to be different the more others will push against us due to fear or ignorance to a great, great extent but also just because we’re so smart we’re dumb. Can’t we come up with a way that we’re not so dumb and still be able to be who we are? I know I can because I look at you as just a fellow human being on the journey regardless of your color or gender along with countless other issues. I am not called to judge, I am called to love, but I am also called to be wise and think beyond myself. If someone wants to claim and express how different they are then I can exclaim why are you trying so hard to be included when you keep separating yourself? Just come walk with me whoever you are and let’s see where the path goes.
