Sleepwalking

So, I have talked about walking dead before but I don’t think I’ve touched on this topic before. You know, it’s not rocket science if you just look around and are aware of what’s simply going on around you. Open your eyes and really look. One of the things I see is people everywhere, sleepwalking. I even catch myself doing it. Now I’m not talking about the scientific case of a person actually getting out of bed and walking, talking but being asleep, well I am but not in the tradition sense. I see people who aren’t sleeping but are still sleepwalking, they are sleepwalking through their day and through their lives.

I get up and go to work. I’m tired, I’m always tired. I work graveyard and I never feel rested. I usually shower to get ready for my work night. I may eat but usually not. I get in the car, drive to work, walk in, have coffee, play on my phone and then clock in and do the process. Sounds like so many others. I’m awake, I’m not asleep but I am sleepwalking. I’m a zombie of myself going through the motions because I have to. I am stuck, I have bills, I need to eat and to have some sort of entertainment. I need money. But folks I’m here to tell you, that’s it’s costing my soul and until I actually do something about it then I’m just sleepwalking through life. I look around just as I implore all of you to do. Look at the people. HOOOOODOM, HOOOOODOM, HOOOOODOM. What does that even mean? That’s the sound people make in their brain when they are just walking through the motions of life. There is no energy, there is no spark, there is no expression. Sludging, trudging step after step doing the same thing over and over.

When a person does smile, does communicate, does try and express. It’s mostly fake because they are caught in this vicious cycle of being awake sleepwalking. They are a shell just existing until the next day, the next paycheck, going nowhere and doing nothing. Look around. It’s everywhere. Look at yourself. It seems we are all striving for something different, we all say the words, dream the dreams but few are taking the leap. It’s easy to just keep on sleepwalking and it’s hard to jump off a cliff. You think you will die if you jump but in reality, you’re already dead if you’re sleepwalking through life. I promise you the leap of faith won’t kill you, but it will do one thing. It will wake you up!

People wake up! Dance in the rain, start a business, move to the tropics, sell everything and travel the country. Something, anything, just wake up and quit walking nowhere. Don’t believe the lies that this is the way life is. Life is meant to be lived to its fullest, not just slept through. Wake up and start the real journey of your life. Wake up and live the dream not just dream the dream. Wake up and be aware of how precious time is. Wake up live your passions and don’t be afraid and then wake up others. The journey of your life is up to you. Do you want to sleep through it until it’s over or do you want to stop sleepwalking and do a little jig? Ok then, a jig it is.
