In the Land of Make Believe

How does the story go? Oh yeah, once upon a time, yeah, yeah, that’s it. Once upon a time there was a land, but the land was make believe. Everyone lived in the land, but nobody was really living. Have you heard this story? This is a story of all of us. We as homo-sapiens have a relative short story. As hominoids it’s a bit longer but still pretty cloudy as it all plays out. We’re a young species and in my opinion not a very bright one. We have huge brains and we have advanced over the last 200 years faster than the entirety of our history. But to what point? What have we done to the betterment of our species, to this planet and to every other living thing that exists here? We just take it all for granted like it’s a land of make believe. Like we will wake up and everything will be just fine and dandy. We think that the universes ways don’t apply to us. Why is that? I think because it’s easier to just live as a walking dead than it is to find awareness and true understanding. We go through this life in a blink of an eye generation after generation. Doing the same story over and over because it’s easier to live make believe than it is to make a difference.

People aren’t really existing in my humble opinion. We go through the motions, we eat, we drink, we work, we play, we raise families, we pay the same bills, but in the end it’s always the end. Nobody really knows what happens. Do we go to heaven? Do we return our energy to the cosmos to be reincarnated later? What happens to this life force inside us after we leave this temporary housing? We don’t know. Many people like to claim they know from religious beliefs. Many claim they know from intellectual beliefs. But if there was a true answer to that then I think we would move from the land of make believe to a land of the living. My point is, that this life that we seemingly have in the now is all we really know so why aren’t we living that life as it was the most precious thing in the universe? Why do we take it for granted? Why do we waste it on things that really don’t matter. Yes, as a physical human being we need food and shelter to survive. But do we need pizza, do we need a corvette, do we need to kill ourselves in a job for 20 years that we hate? All in the same time daydreaming about life being different? Seems like it’s all just make believe to me.

Sure, there are some that appear to have their ducks in a row so to speak. Living the good life. Working in the job they went to college for, married, 2.5 kids, a dog, white picket fence. And there are others who live in monasteries and meditate daily about the deep spiritual understanding of things without the job, the marriage, the kids, the dog. For them, those are their ducks in a row. Who’s right? Who’s wrong? Well, isn’t that a good question. Because where we were born has a huge impact on the life we think we’re supposed to live. If you were born in New York, and it could be in hundreds of thousands of scenarios, you would have a different way of life than if you were born in Iraq in the many different scenarios that could exist there as well. But being in New York more often than not there is never an understanding of being born in Iraq, and vice versa. And yet we all share the same planet, breathe the same air, drink the same water. All that we need to exist. And my question is, exist for what? Are we just living in our own make believe bubble world?

These are the things I ponder quite often. These are the things that I don’t have an answer for. These are the things that I believe would make a difference in humanity if we could all come together and put aside our egos and biased selfishness. We are an incredible being, so skillfully and magically made from all the elements in the universe. I encourage you to find yourself in this short life, that one small speck of sand that makes up the whole of the beach along with the others. Find yourself and awaken from a simple make believe world to the land of your utmost experiences. Time is escaping the hourglass, now is all you truly have. Live the journey.
