Hickory dickory dock, the mouse ran up the clock, we all know the nursery rhyme. But do we know that we are living it out every single day? Here’s the meaning behind this cute nursery rhyme. The clergy used a simple trick to keep this clock functioning. They let mice run up and down the ropes from the clock. Then, they built a cat door right under the clock. The cat kept the mice moving, and the mice kept the clock running. Hence the rhyme, Hickory Dickory Dock, the mouse ran up the clock. We are the mice, and whatever you want to put as the cat most likely will work, the establishment, employer, spouse, kids, money, credit, health. We are controlled by the cat and continue to run up and down the clock ropes of life until we become old, tired and worn out. We retire after years and years of running with not much time left to enjoy retirement. And nothing to show for all of our laboring. And who makes off with the profit? The clock owner of course. Rich for doing little, albeit feeding the cat bare morsels so as to keep it hungry, and after the mice, who then in turn, provide the work force to keep the clock running. Vicious circle for the cat and mouse and a vicious circle that we live out in our lives. Up and down, up and down and nowhere to go and nothing to show for it.
I don’t share this message as a negative, really, I don’t. I share this message as a point of awaking. As I look at this planet so full of mice running to and fro, I can’t help thinking that the majority of people just continue to go through the motions and never get off the clock so to speak. Held in bondage by the cat, who is held in bondage by the clock owner. Tick tock, tick tock, time goes by running and running and then we run out of time. All because we’re afraid to get caught by the cat. The cat sits and waits and waits and waits all because the clock owner has starved the cat. The cycle of trying to exist has been playing out for a long, long time. Always the clock owner is the one that reaps the rewards and the little guy, so to speak, is the one running up or down or sitting and waiting all the while expecting something different to happen. Just jump off the clock or find your food elsewhere. It’s actually quite simple. It just takes the courage of a mustard seed against the whole garden in order to do this. Simple but seemingly impossible. That is the circle, and this is the cycle, and they must be broken in order to be free to live one’s dreams and passions. That’s all.
Hickory dickory dock, I’m breaking this big clock. The owner proclaims, the cat disdains. Hickory dickory dock. If the clock is no longer running your life, your able to jump to the floor and the world becomes a whole new adventure. We mustn’t be controlled by time or by anyone, not even ourselves to an extent. We must trust in the universe and allow the vastness and greatness to guide us on our great journey. If we live by the clock, we die by the clock and time is much too valuable to waste. I encourage you to not just go through the motions, don’t live by the time that controls your life but let life control your time. The world is much bigger than hours, minutes, and seconds ticking away day after day. The world is full of experiences and destinations. We are meant to live in all life’s fullness and to live in all life’s freedoms. Go forth and explore for these old crusty ropes of life are not for you anymore. See you on the journey.
