We have all heard this saying before. Here is the synapsis; The phrase “Ignorance is bliss” is an idiomatic expression that suggests not knowing about certain things can make a person happier because they are unaware of problems or unpleasant facts. Well, I am here to say ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is just ignorance and it’s just plain stupid. There is no getting around it, it’s black and white. If one is ignorant, then it’s a choice to be that way. And to be that way means many things. It means a person is selfish, it means a person is biased, it means a person is uninformed, it means that a person is prejudiced, it means a person has allowed a thought to dictate what truth they want it to be. For example, I am a white male, and women are beneath me based off Eve being from Adams rib and that men are just superior to women and whiteness (which shouldn’t even be a word) is better than another color. See, ignorant. Let’s talk about just these simple ideologies for just a moment. First off, being a male has absolutely no bearing on being a greater human. Doesn’t make one smarter, obviously. Without women there would be no men. We have our own strengths and weaknesses in complete harmony with the balance of nature. And whiteness? What the hell is that? Whiteness was never a “thing” until the early hostile takeover of America. Black, brown, African, Asian, Islander, Native American, all became the new slaves, the new savages, the new less than, instead of Irish, Jew, Catholic, Protestant, German, as the list goes on and on. They never had a term whiteness in Europe. It wasn’t until American came to understand that White people were outnumbered by people of color but realized money had power and the people with the money were predominantly white. Hence “whiteness” suddenly had power. Ignorance has nothing to do with money, with being male or female, or what color or nationality one is. Ignorance is a personal choice.
They say Karma is a bitch. I’m about 50-50 on that fence. I’ve seen people do bad things and never face any repercussions at all, people seemingly benefiting from all sorts of cruel, disgusting, rude, illegal and just plain wrong deeds and Karma hasn’t come for them yet. Is that just my opinion or my own self-righteous judgement against another? Thinking that what I think is right is right? Or is there in some way a universal code of ethics and morality that we should live by as human beings? If a person willfully chooses to act in an abhorrent way is that ignorance or willful dissonance. Seems like a fine line to me. So, no ignorance is not bliss the way I see it. Just being ignorant doesn’t give one a right or the excuse just to be ignorant. And the person being ignorant more than likely will not give one iota to the cause and effect of their ignorance. That is just fuel on the fire of allowing ignorance to be a campfire but turn into a raging forest fire. Ignorance is not bliss. And ignoring it isn’t either. The opposite is to be aware and to be empowered. And that understanding changes the entire narrative.
I don’t have all the answers, but I sure am trying to understand the problems and find better ways to solve them. Ignorance is not a solution. There is so much more involved in the entirety of the equation though. But the bottom line is, when all things, especially in this day and age, are available to learn, understand and discern the truth of, then being ignorant is a choice and it is not bliss. It is against your fellow man or woman; and it is against nature. We are the only species out of balance. Our big brains trick us into thinking we are so smart. Yet how dumb we are. We are destroying this planet quicker than any time in history. We are hurting ourselves and those around us in an exponential number of ways. Being ignorant solves nothing and only exasperates our own demise. And yet so many push on the same narrative day after day, year after year. There has to be another way. There has to be a better understanding. For the sake of humanity. Ignorance is not bliss, it’s just ignorant. Please don’t be ignorant, because if you do and are, there is nothing on this planet to stop you but you. Make changes, choices, actions that are from the soul not from the ego, from the heart and not from the head. That’s how ignorance is washed away and true bliss can manifest.
