What is the measurement of a circle? A full circle is 360°. Half a circle is 180° (called a straight angle). A quarter of a circle is 90°. No matter how big or small the circle is, it is always the exact same measurement. Math always rules itself so to speak. The universe, our planet, our bodies, all that exists, is mathematically equitable. But can time be measured? Sure, in the basic understanding of time. We have measurements for time, even ancient time. But that doesn’t mean time is absolute. Time is a slippery slope. We can say it’s blank time, past, present and future. But that doesn’t mean time is bound by every single rule. It is not. We are not. One thing for sure is, especially as it pertains to life, is that there is a time to begin and a time to end. In the natural world anyways. Everything created, every known species has an expiration date in time. And the expiration is logically, scientifically guess work. No one for the general understanding knows when their time is going to be over. One may be a baby, one may be 40, one may be 90 but there is an end nonetheless, and there is no clock that determines that. So, we live life in a circle. Somehow, somewhere a beginning and an end.
I recently listened to an audio book from a book I had read many years ago. Some of the questions asked were. Where are you? What time is it? Most people would say commonsensible, I am in my house, in my city, in my state, so on and so forth. “Where,” being an actual place. “What time,” would be answered with a time or a date, it’s 3 o’clock on the 27th kind of thing. But where and when on the circle of life is an entirely different understanding. Where is here and when is now. Got it? In this exact moment, you are where you are at this exact time, all else is irrelevant. The past is gone, the future has yet to be. I am here and I am now. It doesn’t matter if you’re in Iceland and it’s 3 in the morning. You are still here, and the time is right now. That is acute awareness. Once a person can understand that, only then can they have understanding of their life. If we continually live in the past, or continually look at the future, we are missing living in the here and now and that is the single most important place and time in your life. My best friend asked me long ago, “when does tomorrow come?” “It comes tomorrow”, I quickly said. “What is tomorrow?” “Tomorrow is tomorrow, duh.” He laughed and said, “tomorrow doesn’t exist,” ” it’s a figment of one’s imagination, for tomorrow is always tomorrow, it never comes, and by equation will never be now, only now is now, understand?”
We go round and round the circle of life, many of us doing the same thing over and over again. History repeating itself. We start like the first ink blot press of the pen, go 360 degrees to only wind up in the exact same spot as we started. Why is that? Because it’s easy, it’s safe and it’s what we know. It’s hard to break away from the circle, it’s hard to make zig zag lines, it’s hard to scribble and be messy and color outside the lines. But in order to be free in the here and now, in order to have control over the circle of time, that’s exactly what one must do. When that can be understood and attained then life takes on a whole new dimension, a whole new awareness. Then the circle of time can be broken whether your 8 or 80. Then life is precious and malleable. It’s not taken for granted, it’s not boring and just passed through day after day, year after year. It’s not wasted due to fear or from the heaviness or control of “things” around us. We become empowered vs. ineffective. We become free instead of held in bondage. This is an awareness few come to understand. This becomes living an aware life vs. living a walking dead life. It all seems an impossible way of being. Easy to say and most difficult to live out. But I assure you, it is attainable. There are just so many things that distract us, “OOOOOOO, look at that shiny thing!” Not that shiny things are bad per say but all in perspective. The shiniest object is yourself. Make your circle of time shine bright in the here and the now. Go forth as a beacon of light, as a gift to this world no matter what circle it is. See ya on the journey.
