Where has common sense gone? On my last post, I talked about it being thrown out the window. I have purposely stayed away from politics and the like in my posts. I have tried to make subtle hints but, in this post, I am not going to be silent. According to the constitution, that “someone” is basically trying to do away with to fit their own ugly agenda, I have free speech. I turn 57 this year and never, ever thought I would see the things I have seen. Covid, a sexual assaulter and felon being elected president. The United States freedoms being squashed and attacked by a man who is supposed to defend those freedoms. I am watching a free country divide itself largely in my opinion from a deep buried root of hate, of racism, of bigotry, of misogyny. I never dreamed that I would see this so manifested in the year 2025. I know it has never gone away, and it’s just been lying dormant under the surface, but I had faith in people to do the right thing. Do the right thing for the sake of humanity. Cory Booker made a statement in his record-breaking speech on the Senate floor, he said, ” It isn’t about right or left, it’s about right or wrong.” The United States under the so-called leadership of DJT and his clown administration is turning itself upside down. How did we get here? Because people were afraid to vote for a “black woman”? Because hate is more prevalent than I could have ever imagined. That ignorance and lack of common sense permeates much of this country. We are upside down and I never would have imagined it for my life time.
So, what do we do about it? Well, I understand that the constitution is of the people, by the people and for the people. WE THE PEOPLE are the government, the voice, the strength and resolve of a nation to do better, to be better. Freedoms come at a heavy price and sacrifice. History shows us that, even our own history not so long ago during the civil rights movement. It’s not about the color of ones’ skin, if you’re male or female, what sexual orientation, what religion, or nationality one is, or any of it. You even have the freedom to even be an atheist or a neo nazi if you so choose and those rights are protected by our “Constitution”. For over 250 years this has been our guide. This is what made us different from every other nation in the world, what made us a leader and example of what a free country is truly. The forefathers were some pretty smart fellas to have the wherewithal to contemplate a future and to give us a guide through it. But right now, it sure feels like we have been flipped upside down and many don’t know which way is up.
There are staunch believers that say and believe what is happening is “right”, but I would implore any of them to really look deeper into the entirety of the issue. There is much hypocrisy woven throughout, many false beliefs, many emotions that cloud sound judgement. We are NOT a country of “white” people. We are not a country of “Christianity”. Matter of fact, if Jesus was an actual person, he wasn’t white and he sure didn’t like how religion was being used to threaten, intimidate and control the people. Our ancestors, who are immigrants by the way, came here to escape two things: religious persecution and the rule of the crown. Period. They wanted a FREE country for all men, (which includes women as well). We have floundered along the way, made many mistakes, we are a young country in comparison to the rest of the world. But here’s a statement to ponder as well. We are not the indigenous of this country. What, mainly white, men did in the name of exploration and conquering a nation was in hindsight deplorable and ever so wrong. The hypocrisy comes from making excuses for it, for justifying it. We are ALL the same species regardless of color, race, nationality or the like. And to treat others with such disdain, disrespect, gross injustice is sickening. The hypocrisy comes from “knowing” what Hitler did to Germany, how he mislead people with lies and took control of media, educational institutions, and the military. Much of what is trying to happen in America. To believe and think, “well, good thing it isn’t me”, until they come for you at the end is also hypocrisy. We should learn from the past; we should be wiser and yet to a large extent we are not.
People get so lost and caught up in their own belief systems that they fervently deny all others even when common sense, awareness, and wisdom shows them otherwise. For example, most people are adamantly opposed to sexual assault or misconduct, especially with children, but yet make excuse or deny that a certain president is guilty of such activities. We believe and follow religions and even cults blindly without ever questioning what it all means. We are quick to become a mob mentality and make judgements based off how we feel about something never taking into account the multitude of factors involved. We live our lives based out of largely what we are taught but also by our geography, our lot in life according to money and what we perceive is a status. We surrender to the religion of the region. We judge those who look different and think different. We say we believe in God and not even understand what God it is or if God even exists. The list is endless. And all this to say, who are we really? What are we really doing? Why am I here? What is my purpose and the greater purpose of living this life. We are here for such a short time. Why is it so difficult to see through the veil of life around us? Why do so many exist as walking dead? Because we choose to, that’s why. All my writing, all my opinions, my thoughts, are just points along the journey to stop, take a moment, breathe, to ponder that maybe, just maybe there are other ways of thinking that are right, not wrong, that can turn the world upright and not spin it in chaos. I don’t have all the answers, but I am trying. I’m trying not to just go through the motions and wind up in Guyana dead from drinking poison because some eccentric, narcissistic thought process dictated that I couldn’t think on my own for the betterment of myself and those around me. Think logically, think with common sense, think with wisdom from past experiences and lessons, think without emotions dictating a thought process that overrules right thinking. Think without ego that you are right and everyone is wrong. Find the truth, search beyond, because that’s just the way it is, thinking. There is, I believe, a fundamental truth of right and wrong it just takes flipping the world right side up instead of upside down. It takes humility, compassion, empathy, awareness to know, to understand we are not the center of the universe and yet we are all still connected throughout the cosmos in this thing called life. We can do better, we must do better, our future depends on it.
