Wrapping Paper

Writing comes fairly easy to me, wrapping does not. My present wrapping skills looks as if a 5-year-old did the wrapping, no disrespect to you 5-year-olds. But seriously I can’t wrap very well. I just usually settle for a bag with tissue paper covering the gift. But why do we wrap things, wrap gifts? What is the significance of wrapping. Is it our own ego saying, “oh, look at me and how well I wrapped this gift for you, this GIFT that I got just for you, and I took all this time to wrap it and everything.” And or, is it on the receiving end of getting that gift. “Oh, a gift, for me, you shouldn’t have, what is it?” The excitement, the anticipation, the endorphin rush of opening a new treasure? Some take the gift and open it slowly, savoring the wrapping paper, enjoying the act of opening, of exploring, of revelation as the gift comes forward from its cocoon. Some tear it open with vigor and gusto, so overly excited that they rip the wrapping paper off as fast as they can like a staving madman. So, I would have to come to the conclusion that there is a plethora of reasons to wrap and to unwrap the things that we do. But my question is, do we even think about the wrapping paper and why it’s there, how it came to be there, was it chosen specifically, do we even care that it’s wrapped at all when one is searching for the prize hidden beneath the wrapping paper as the end result. Wrapping paper to a large degree gets overlook and discarded. We, ourselves, are a lot like wrapping paper.

Most of us have pride and an ego. We dress to impress, or to be like everyone else. We get degrees to showcase how smart we are. We buy homes to compare to the Jones. We are wrapped in our very own guises of social acceptance and status quo. And most don’t even realize they are doing it. So, I am writing about YOU being a representation of wrapping paper. We come wrapped in so many styles, forms and fashions. We come in all colors too. I just want to share that if a person is keenly aware of the wrapping paper tent they live in, then they get to pick and choose what that wrapping paper looks like, and then they have come to terms with the universe in balance and harmony of oneself. We can model both sides of the spectrum of wrapping paper, one, that it doesn’t matter and two, yet it really does. It all depends on awareness. Are you just a simple gift, wrapped in unforgettable wrapping paper or are you a lifetime blessing wrapped up in the essence of your true being. That is a journey I feel everyone should be on. Wrapping paper is the first thing people see when the present is under the tree or handed to them for whatever the reason. But the wrapping paper isn’t the entire story, it only tells the story on the outside and even then, it can be misinterpreted.

Much of what we see on the outside is a facade. People hide so much of themselves, just as a present is hidden, wrapped away from any prying eyes. The wrapping paper is usually quite aesthetic, and we accept it easily. But what if it’s wrapped horribly? Are we quick to judge it and judge the person who wrapped it, much of the time I would say yes. But it doesn’t mean that all the time the present is a good or bad representation of the paper it’s wrapped in. It’s just the outside exterior and we must be able to see more than just what it appears. We are all some sort of wrapping paper, we are all made and created in various forms, colors, styles and reasons. So, there is much to be understood and deciphered in each and everyone’s own wrapping paper. But what I feel is even of more importance is that beneath all the wrapping paper is the gift of you. And it’s not so much about the paper as it is about the gift inside. All forms of life wrapped up different in designs and nuances. Some are wrapped eloquently, some are vibrant, some are just plain as can be, and in my case my wrapping paper is not folded right, tape all over the place and holes here and there but I’m ok with that. For my wrapping paper is me and I am secure in the gift of self. What does your wrapping paper present, and what is the true nature of your gift inside? This is the path of self-discovery and a gift to the world.
