Twilight Zone

How many of you know the song by Golden Earring, about living in the twilight zone? But even more than the words of a song, are the many concepts of what the meaning of a Twilight Zone could be. And that’s just my point. Life to me is a twilight zone. What we think of life, what we see of life, what we live out as life is all a facade. We come into this world by a sperm and egg coming together and igniting fertilization which creates a single new cell called a zygote. And then this cell starts to divide and divide and divide. There are many debates of when quote, “life” begins but to me it’s even more of a question of how and where this spark of life comes from. Scientists and mathematicians have calculated the odds of “YOU” being born is one in ten to the 2,685,000 to the 10th power. Did you get that? It’s a really, really big number. Where did you come from? From nothingness to bam a spark of life. What is life? A heartbeat, brain activity, breathing? I’m not here to answer that even though that is a huge, intriguing question. What I’m going to talk about is what happens in this thing called life. We start out as children for the most part, not having a care in the world. We play, we sleep, we get fed and we learn. The problem, I feel, is what we learn. We learn from our parents and from our environment and to a large degree that will be all that we learn. Oh, we can go to college, we can go to other countries but we’re still, as a whole, the child that was taught and programmed how to be. Think I’m blowing smoke? Look around, really look. Open your eyes. How are people living? Like a bunch of ants? Like a bunch of sheep? Whatever may be the comparison, if one chooses to see how we are living then they will see it. If one chooses not to then obviously they won’t.

Being aware is hard work. It takes great sacrifice, sacrifice to self, sacrifice to others’ expectations. Humans tend to follow the same old trail, to the same old place, to the same old end. We go through the motions of living and to me that is the twilight zone. We are living in a life that is a walking dead life. We learn what our parents learned. We learn what our environment gives us. Born to different parents, born in a different environment more than likely one would assimilate just that and do the same thing over and over. Is that really living or is that living in some twilight zone, an existence of just going through the motions? What does that mean, going through the motions? Well, aside from becoming like our parents and our environment, we grow, we eat, we work. We go to school, being taught what we are hand fed. We get a job, we get married, we have children, we buy, we have debt and then we grow old and die. The circle of life; or what we think life is. When I open my eyes to what’s really going on, all I see is myself living in a twilight zone, a masquerade of living free when in all actuality I’m living in a cage, running on a wheel going nowhere. It’s incredibly difficult to see and almost impossible to escape. But it can happen.

One must be aware of themselves, aware of others, aware of their surroundings, aware that life is not just what is in a bubble around them. Life is bigger than one can even imagine. Why not be debt free? Why not live freely of soooooo many possessions that we think create life but instead acts as anchors that hold us down. We become so emotional about “everything” instead of seeing the deep truth of one’s own psyche of who and why we chose to come into existence. A secret, it wasn’t just to pay bills, be like our neighbors, work our bodies to an early death just to think that’s living life. We chose to bring our energy to this planet and there must be a bigger understanding than just going through the motions. We are so smart, sometimes it makes us dumb. Life isn’t just to keep doing the same thing over and over. Life is meant to be lived, to explore, to journey, to learn, to share a greater knowing other than just acting like it’s a one-dimensional play and then the curtain comes down. Ha Ha silly prank on us as the great beings control our puppet strings. I don’t want to be a puppet. I don’t want to be controlled. I don’t want to live a life round and round on the wheel, as my inner self screams, geeeeet offffff, juuuuuuump, waaaaaaake up. I’m trying, I’m trying but damn it’s hard. I feel I’m destined to come back and do this over again for being almost 60 I’m quickly running out of mortal time. How many times have I been here, how many times have I done this – just living in the twilight zone. Make life more.
